Audit Season Is Here

For companies that have a fiscal year end of June 30, it is usually one of the busiest times for their accounting and finance teams. Generally, auditors arrive sometime in September, in order to have reports ready for the annual board meeting. I can only imagine the challenges to meet deadlines this year because of the pandemic. Although cloud-based technology has made it possible for some companies to function with little or no interruptions by operating remotely, others may have been set back somewhat.

Seeking interim assistance from an accounting consultant during audit season can be very effective.  Having the extra set of hands to work alongside your team can facilitate the flow of processes and allow your company to meet the financial statement deadline.

Audits season can also have an impact on the regular workflow, as time is taken away to prepare reports and produce records for the auditors. An audit generally takes a few weeks to conduct but it depends heavily on the client’s readiness and the efficiency of the team.  When the books are not up to date or requested schedules and records are not readily available, that creates delays, which can also result in cost overruns. Believe me, no CFO or CEO likes this.
