How Well Are You Managing Your Books?

As a business-owner, managing the finances of your business is a necessary function and should not be taken for granted. Setting up a system early on in the business, can set the course for how you can measure the success or financial viability of the business.

Small business owners may require the assistance of an accountant to analyze and reconcile their books in order to prepare for the filing of their tax returns. A trained professional is better positioned to help you maximize your deductions while reducing your tax liabilities. They generally keep abreast of new tax laws and updates which is also a plus.

It can be quite overwhelming trying to operate the business and manage the bookkeeping yourself as a business owner. You may think that you can’t afford to hire and accountant but it can cost you your peace of mind trying to do it all. Even if you have some knowledge of accounting or bookkeeping, you may not have the bandwidth to do everything yourself.

Now, if you do decide that you can manage the finances of your business yourself, it is advised to avail yourself to some of the basic training available for small business owners. There are tons of resources available to entrepreneurs that’s geared to educate and prepare them for some of the foundational aspects of running a successful business. For example, the Small Business Administration and Score, offers mentors in various aspects of business start-up.

Recently, I hosted a workshop titled “Bookkeeping Basics For Small Business Owners”. I shared important information from choosing a bookkeeping software to setting up key performance indicators (KPIs). You can watch the video below.
